Just let your horse out

When you buy a new horse, or when you move your horse to a new stable, your horse will have to get to know the horses in its field. But how do you do that?

So when we moved Miss G, we knew that she had to go on a field with new horses. This can always be challengeing, cause you never know how the other horses will react to your horse. That's why I want to tell what we did with Miss G, when we had to put her in the field with the other horses.

But let's first start with the moving day. So when I have to move a horse, I like to move it, so it's at the new stable at the afternoon. This way your horse can stand in a stall and get used to its suroundings before getting out in the field with the other horses. I know this is not how somebody does, cause some people like to put their horse in the field with the other horses, right away. I mean it maybe works for somebody. I just know my horse and I know she likes to be in her little bubble, before she has to go on the field with the other horses.

The next couple of days, Miss G was out in the arena on her own. She could always see the other horses. After those days, we let her out with the horses on one field. It went kind of okay. There where not really any kind of fights at first. But as days went on the other horses really didn't like Miss G and I could tell she really wasen't happy! She would just stand at the gate every day, kind of looking over to the other horses, at the field next to hers. It really broke my heart to see her like this!

I had thought of asking the owner of the horses in the other field, if we could move Gitte to their field, but the owner asked me, before I could. So on that very same day, we moved Miss G from one field, to the other. There's one mare on that field, so of course they would fight, but they don't fight as much, as the other horses did, so I think that's a good thing!

When you let your horses out from the morning, I would just say, that it's a good idea, if you show your horse, its field, so it knows it. After you have shown your horse the field, then let the other horses out and let go of your horse and run for cover. Of course the horses will fight a bit, because they have to get to know their role with the other horses. Who's the leader and who's next in line. This is just horses being horses.

This is how we did it. Miss G seems happier now, eventhough they still kind of have to figure things out.

Love Maggie ❤
