Storytime: When selling something goes wrong!

 

I think we all know this: Us equestrians have a lot of tack! Sometimes we clean something out, because it doesn't fit or we're just not loving it as much anymore. So what do we do? we try to sell it. We put it on facebook and maybe if we are lucky someone wants to buy the thing. But does the deal always goes smoothly? Well not in my experience.. 

That's why I want to talk about that time, when I was trying to sell some winter riding boots. I bought them, but never really used them, so I thought I would just sell them. I put an ad on serveral pages on the web. Some were interested, but not enough to buy them. Until one day a lady wrote to me. I had the boots listed at 250 DKK without what it would cost to send them. This lady wanted me to sell them with costing for 250 DKK and wanted the most expensive company to send. I tried to tell her, that it was the most expensive and if she would up her price a little, then we could talk about selling. 

At first She only wanted to buy the boots at that price, but I wasen't going to sell them at that price with costing. So we made a deal. She would have to pay 275 DKK and then I would send them with the company she wanted. She got my number somehow and called me, which I thought was kind of weird, but okay. Then asked me all these kind of weird questions. I was nice and answered her questions. We made a deal and I shipped the boots to her. 

A couple of days later I got a message from her. She was very mad because I apperently had lied to her ( I haven't). The boots were badly made, they didn't sit very nice on her foot. They were the wrong size, even though they were not. I'm a size 39/UK 6 and the boots fit me nicely. I actually thought they were on the bigger size. She then wanted me to send her 25 DKK, because I had "tricked her" into giving her them. When I refused, because I'm a privat person and in my right not to give her the money (the 25 DKK). She then got REALLY mad and said that I was a thief and had stolen the money out of her wallet... Yes she really did say this... One thing I just don't understand, is how can I steal her money, by having taken them out of her wallet, without her realising,  when she was in the other end of the country? Like it doesen't make any sense to me!

In the end I just blocked her, because it was a waste of my time, but also hers. But I could still see that she kept writing to me. Never answered them though. One thing I think she really did not understand and perhaps still don't, is here in my country we have a saying like 'bought as seen' which means that you buy the thing as it is, if it's from a privat person. If the thing you are bying, doesn't fit you, then you can't tell the seller you want your money back. Of course there are different rules, if you buy things from a shop.

But the thing is, I don't understand, why people get this mad, like this buyer here. You buy some things from a privat person. That person is not under any law, like a shop is, therefore you can't demand to get your money back or maybe just some back and the seller is in hers/his/their full right to deny. I guess it's just always a risk, when you buy from a privat person? What do you think?
